Emergency shelters
are designated locations set-up by the American Red Cross during
an emergency evacuation or other disaster for residence of the
affected area for as long as necessary. Shelters provide basic
essentials such as food, water, blankets, cots, and toiletries.
If you are told to
evacuate,
-
Turn on your
police scanner if you don't already have it on and listen in
for information on events near you as they unfold.
-
Take your Grab
& Go box and First
Aid Supply Kit
-
Close and lock
your doors and windows
-
Close all vents
-
Remain calm and
move quickly
-
Follow the exact
route you are told to take and avoid taking shortcuts as a
shortcut could put you in the path of danger.
-
Take your pets with you; do not leave them behind. Because pets are not permitted in public shelters, follow your plan to go to a relative's or friend's home, or find a "pet-friendly" hotel.
