Ask any officer and he/she will tell you that there is NO such thing
as a routine traffic stop as the events on this incident prove. An
alert Glendora Police Officer spots a vehicle driving
"blacked-out" (with no lights). The officer attempts a
traffic stop and the chase is on. The high-speed pursuit terminates when the
suspect crashes the vehicle and flees on foot armed with a
shotgun resulting in a "998" (Officer Involved Shooting).
The suspect was apprehended after a four-hour search hiding in his
home near the termination scene.
Note: the following agencies responded available units to the area:
Walnut Sheriff, Pomona PD, Azusa PD, Industry Sheriff, Temple City Sheriff,
Whittier PD, Baldwin Park CHP, Montclair PD, Long Beach PD
(Airship), Cal Poly PD, East Los Angeles CHP, & Ontario
CHP. As such, several different channels are heard throughout
the recording.

(0:58,
113K - added 11/25/03)
End of Watch - November 15, 2003
Officer Matthew Pavelka was shot and killed while backing up another officer
during a traffic stop on November 15, 2003 at 1845 hours. Upon

suspects fired over 30 rounds from the handguns, striking both
officers. Although critically wounded, both officers were able to
return fire and killed one of the suspects. The second suspect,
David Garcia, escaped and was captured
on November 27, 2003. Several semi-automatic rifles and
methamphetamine were found in the vehicle during the ensuing
investigation.
Officer Pavelka had only served with the Burbank Police Department

Deputy Injured in Large
Brawl at Universal CityWalk in Hollywood
(5:16, 618K - added 11/25/03)
Every year UCLA & USC clash on the football field in a heated
college rivalry for bragging rights to who is the best in Southern
California. This year, both UCLA & USC fans clashed off the
football field the night before the big game during a rally at the famous Universal CityWalk
in Hollywood. Five deputies who are assigned to duty at Citywalk
were right in the middle of it. One deputy was injured and many of
those involved in the melee were arrested.
Note: There is about 20-seconds or so of audio missing from this
clip. I was already in bed for the night when all of a sudden I
heard "deputies involved in a fight (struggling heard), large
unruly crowd, need back-up now!". The audio starts as soon as I
was able to get to my PC and start the recorder. Oh, by the
way, USC
won the big game by blowing out UCLA 47-22.

A "Deuce" is police jargon for drunk driver. This pursuit started around 1:30am when LA County Sheriff's deputies
patrolling the Hacienda Heights area spotted a vehicle weaving. They attempted to stop the vehicle and the chase was on. It was a long and dangerous pursuit, lasting just over 1 hour and 20
minutes and weaving across all lanes reaching speeds of up to 110 MPH, even driving in the wrong direction on the
freeway at one point!
The pursuit covered roughly 83 miles of Southern California freeways including the Pomona Fwy. (SR-60), the Long Beach Fwy. (I-710), the San Bernardino Fwy. (I-10), the Pasadena Fwy. (SR-110), the
Ventura Fwy. (SR-134), the Foothill Fwy. (I-210), and the San Gabriel Fwy.
(I-605). It traveled in or through the following cities (in order listed); Hacienda Heights South El Monte, Montebello, Monterey Park, East Los Angeles, Downtown Los Angeles, Highland Park, South Pasadena, Pasadena, Eagle Rock, Sierra Madre, Temple City, Monrovia, Arcadia,
Duarte, Irwindale, Baldwin Park, El Monte, back to Hacienda Heights, and finally ending in
Industry when the suspect pulled over and gave up. This audio contains communications from both LASD and CHP.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies and firefighters respond to a
call of wires down. Upon arrival, deputies and firefighters find the
call is much more than just wires down. The wires down spanned
several blocks with exploding transformers that sparked a brush fire
threatening nearby apartments and businesses. In the end, two
civilians were electrocuted (both survived), 120 persons were
displaced, and 20 businesses were evacuated.

"Pomona Incident" - Second Alarm Commercial Structure Fire
(5:55, 702K - added 10/01/03)
Los Angeles County Firefighters require a second
alarm response to battle a commercial structure fire in Pomona,
California.
Note: On an LACOFD response to a structure fire, the initial engine
companies that
responds are known as the "first alarm" (usually 5-7 engine
companies and 1-2 rescue squads). Upon arrival, "IC" or
"Incident Command" is established by the first engine
company to arrive. If more resources are required to battle the
blaze, a "Second Alarm" is called up. If even more
resources are needed, a "Third" or even "Fourth
Alarm" response is called which usually provides enough
resources to put out the fire. Other fire agencies like Los Angeles
City's Fire Department use the term "Greater Alarm Fire"
instead of the above.

Audio clip of New York City Fire Department & New York City
Police communications as they took place that fateful morning of
September 11, 2001. The
audio picks up just before the first tower, the South Tower collapses. In the moments following the first
collapse there is much chaos over the air as most of the command structure of the
New York Fire Department perished in the first tower's collapse. Note: The word "Kay" refers to a break or "end" in communications.
